Seashell Mosaics

Seashells, the enduring remains of creatures once alive, serve to commemorate people and ideas that have likewise lived and struggled, and left their imprints on our time.

These mosaics use whole gastropods, and halves of bivalves, in their natural shapes and colors. At a distance, 800 to 1200 seashells present a visage; closer, their fine structures take over. Why do we "see" what we think we see?
